Our Story

Camp Bluebird started in 1985, when a cancer survivor in Birmingham, Alabama, decided to start a retreat for adult cancer survivors. He approached St. Vincent's Foundation at St. Vincent’s Hospital, and America’s first adult cancer camp was born. The name originated from a project preserving bluebirds in North America, a symbol of hope for cancer patients. Camp is in the spring and fall, offering campers a unique opportunity for listening and learning, not only about their disease, but others like themselves who live with cancer. Each camper will have the opportunity to build a bluebird house while at camp.
